Comparable Experiences of Neo-Tantric Massage

Updated: Nov 12, 2023

I was having a conversation with a lovely person and we started talking about auditory sensory meridian response (ASMR). I was inspired by this conversation because I felt like the reported experience of this auditory paresthesia is parallel to the experience I provide with my neo-tantric massage - which is a term and experience that I've created based on the sensual type of touch that I enjoy. So what is ASMR?

ASMR is a paresthesic response to auditory stimulation. People report feeling tingling or “goosebumps” beginning from their scalp

all the way down their spine when they listen to certain sounds on a video. It is reported that people find stimulation because of the various crisp sounds, such as clear whispers and slow movements, as well as hearing the content to be attentive to the viewer. Some people also report a level of calmness that they experience when listening to ASMR. A study conducted by Smejka and Wiggs (2022) suggested that ASMR alleviated mood while reducing symptoms of depression and insomnia. You can read more about this study here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0165032721013355

Another way that I can describe my touch is through the scalp massagers (that look like a claw, see here: that also gives you the tingling throughout your body. But imagine a firm massage in conjunction with the goosebumps and other various sensations, such as paresthesic-type music, lighting and light, clean scents in the environment - further stimulating relaxation.

I believe that it can be argued that those who experience paresthesia from this auditory to tactile experience may also have synesthesia. Synesthesia is the experience of sensing one of your senses through another. The common experience of synesthesia is hearing sounds, seeing colours or numbers as colours. According to WebMD, there are some other common experiences that have been reported:

  • See or hear a word and taste food

  • See a shape and taste food

  • Hear sounds and see shapes or patterns

  • Hear sounds after you smell a certain scent

  • Hear sounds and taste food

  • Feel an object with your hands and hear a sound

  • Feel a touch when seeing someone else being touched. (This is called mirror touch.)

You can read more about synesthesia here: https://www.webmd.com/brain/what-is-synesthesia

There is nothing wrong with you if this is something you can relate to. In fact, if you experience paresthesia from ASMR I think it is such a fantastic gift that can be used for sexual stimulation and edging through auditory stimulation toward an intense orgasm, produced by the video of choice.
